The Twilight Series – New Moon Movie Review

I’ve just returned from seeing the film New Moon and by all accounts, New Moon is reasonably true to the book. I think that Catherine Hardwicke would have done a better job directing New Moon then Chris Weitz. Something was missing.

I have to add, that unless you read the book, you may not understand what’s happening.

It was nice to see the two main character’s, Bella and Edward on the screen again, but even nicer to see Jacob transform into a buff young man who’s fallen for Bella and will fight for her affection. Never mind that she teases him and leads him on in her quest get over her loss of Edward.
There’s definitely chemistry between the 3 main characters.

There are some small pleasures to be found in New Moon, not the least of which is the relationship between Bella and Jacob. It’s effectively developed and nicely played, and the revelation that Jacob is a werewolf doesn’t come across as absurd as it could.

The special effects with the wolf transformations were all right, but I couldn’t help but chuckle at the smeared lipstick Edward was wearing on closeups.

New Moon had no real surprises. The diehard Twilight fans will appreciate the way in which the book has been brought to the screen. If one hasn’t read the series, they may lose interest in the story quickly. The film does what it needs to do. That’s the bottom line. Anyone who doesn’t experience a rush of excitement at the thought of another Twilight movie would be better off seeing something else.
