According to one dictionary, a Fairy is an imaginary being who is supposed to have magical powers.
A faery is a small being that has wings such as butterfly wings, dragonfly wings etc..
Fairies are said to have magical powers, such as the ability to change the seasons, weather, or other features of nature. Where did the word “Fairy” come from?

Fairy comes from Faerie (French) Faerie comes from Fa’ae (Gallic) Fa’ae comes from Fata (Latin, meaning the fates) Fa’ae or fae or fay all mean about the same thing: a group of special magical beings that look a little human with powers that go from good to evil.

The Fairy Handbook tells us that most fairies are delightful magical spirits with likenesses and kinship to flowers, insects, and other small creatures. Fairies are problem solvers, helpers, fixers, and protectors of nature. They get along well with gnomes and most other living things. Fairy spirits are given to select girls at the moment of their birth. When they are old enough to handle the responsibility that comes with being a fairy, young girls are told about their fairy spirits, and are guided by fairy mentors (usually older fairies) to learn how to use their powers and gifts in accordance with their job as fairies.

At Fairy MagykFairy Magyk you’ll find many types of fairies that will suit your fairy personality. From Christine Haworth’s beautiful “Faerie Poppets”
to Jessica Galbreth’s dark and romantic Faeries.

They suck.
They’re in serious need of revision.
They’re needed but they are so draconian.

Before anyone jumps down my throat and gives me the lecture on keeping our country rabies free, let me explain..

In May I had to return home for a while, and before doing so phoned BA to see about my dog,
Casey
travelling home with me. I was told by an agent when making my reservations that all I needed to take my dog and bring her back was that she had to be microchipped (done as a pup), have an up-to-date booster record (done) have proof that she’s been vaccinated against rabies (done past 3 years and have the vaccine ID numbers attatched to her records) have a health certificate from a vet to show she’s healthy enough to travel. (did that too) They told me on her return she’d probably need another vets letter stating she was fit to travel if we were gone over 2 weeks. (Not a problem.)
I had had Casey vaccinated 3 years in a row against the rabies virus, plus she had been chipped as a pup. Being brought up in Canada and the USA I believe in the rabies vaccine which is why I had Casey innoculated against the virus.

So we went ahead and booked the flight and booked Casey too. Upon arrival in the States we had no problem clearing both US and Canada Immigration with Casey .

The nightmare began when I tried to book Casey home on a flight on BA. In Detroit, they refused to accept her unless I hired a pet agent who would bring her to the airport. OMG what a ripoff. I could have made the arrangements myself as that’s what I did to leave the UK, but noooo the USA BA staff absolutely refuse to transport a pet unless an overpaid animal hauler is hired. When I asked why I couldn’t book Casey’s flight like I did back home I was quite rudely told, “You’re not in the UK lady, we don’t book your dog”..So my search began and after 1 week I found someone suitable who made the arrangements and got Casey onto the same flight my husband and I were on to return home.

This is where the nightmare began. We were told Casey would have to go into quarantine for SIX MONTHS upon her return to the UK! OMG. We were gutted. Why did my dog who had all of the neccessary paperwork have to go into quarantine? Because she had no BLOOD TEST for rabies antibodies!! Excuse me, she’s been vaccinated and a rabies injection is supposed to give 3 years of protection against that virus!!! We even had a vet check her in the States and give us the paperwork that stated she was fit to travel to the UK!

Luckily we found a kennel to send Casey to a few miles away so we could visit our girl every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

In the meantime I’ve wrote and phoned DEFRA and was shot down at every turn. Casey could not be released because of lack of this damned blood test . DEFRA wont budge. So we were/are faced with her being in quarantine til december 5th.

DEFRA refused to acknowledge her previous vaccinations, although I had the certificates and rabies vaccines lot numbers. I had her medical records and chip ID number as well. All to no avail. My dog has now been in a in 6 month quarantine. A Rabies blood test only takes 30 days if that for the results but DEFRA wont allow Casey out until December.

Let me say I fully understand that the UK has never had rabies and there are measures to keep that in place..BUT I paid good money for my dogs’ vaccines over the years and now feel that was futile. I don’t mind a small period of time in quarantine to make sure she isn’t going to go rabid, but 6 months???

It’s broken my heart and everyone’s who loves her, to see Casey in a small fenced kennel and even more devastating was seeing her try to run with us and cry as we had to leave her for the evening. We can visit her 3 days a week for 2 hours each time, but 6 months???

Talk about feeling hopeless and banging your head against a brick wall, which is why I’m writing this. I made a mistake by trusting what some British Airways agent told me, and now my innocent dog has had to pay as will we with boarding costs well over £2,000.00.

This is just stupid and impractical. Unfair and cruel.

So, since June 5th, Casey has been isolated in a small cell..

Thank God the staff at the kennels are loving to the animals there. Casey was given a wooden bench which I was so greatful for as it kept her from having to sleep in a plastic dog bed on the cold cement floor. We take flannelette sheets and covered the bench and brought her big comfy dog bed cushion and put it on there with a pillow and several soft blankets. Casey’s kennel gets the brunt of the rain or wind so we do as much to ensure she wont have to lay there shivering.

There’s a small Cavalier King Charles calendar decorating her bleak wall and one of the carers put Casey’s kennel (transportation kennel) back in her room as Casey finds comfort hiding in it during times of stress like fireworks.

She’s gained so much weight from lack of exercise, and developed some strange eye malady that takes special drops 3-4 times a day. That’s another 40 quid added to the bill every month.

There’s only 4 weeks left of Caseys unjust incarceration and I can’t wait to get my girl back home.

The kennel is full to the brim of quarantined cats and dogs. Upon speaking to quite a few of the other people with pets there, their pets also had rabies injections. Is 6 months really neccessary?

Someone is certainly reaping in some money from start to finish on a lot of travelling pets.
And British Airways..You need to TRAIN your staff up on DEFRA so people wont be caught unawares.

Here is a link to a petition to change the laws of the quarantine..This law was wrote in 1903! OMG 1903. and with all of the science today, there is certainly room for change!
Please, I ask you to sign it, ask your UK friends to sign it..PLEASE help to get these politicians to change these draconian laws.

Our pets have more of a chance of getting rabies from a bat or a fox then from travelling abroad! and BATS are PROTECTED here in the UK!! Why not give fair treatment to cats and dogs who do recieve regular rabies vaccines??

PLEASE SIGN! PLEASE SIGN HERE! PLEASE SIGN!

We discovered The incredibly charming Jack Russel called ‘Fabian’

I wonder if being a bad sport is something that is learned or is a genetic predisposition.
Wayne Rooney..Englands’ so called top notch footballer, the saving grace for World Cup?!?

According to some, Wayne Rooney is

fast, he’s aggressive, and he brings real hope to England’s flagging national squad.

So what went wrong? He was red carded at the nth minute by Argentine referee Horacio Elizondo. Millions of viewers watched his temper flare at that moment, and in the game before we all watched as he thumped the poles on the way back to the players’ bench after being switched in the last half of the game. He pulled some nasty looking faces and threw a small hissy fit on camera. What a great example to set for the wanna be soccer players of the future! NOT!!

It’s fair to say that Rooney has a temperament. He’s received a whopping 12 yellow cards 2 seasons ago for losing his head. He IS a young player and quite obviously untutored in anger management. He could be a liability in future games if he doesn’t shape up that hot temper of his!

Come on Wayne, let’s clean up the temper and bad attitude, millions of kids and fans look up to you to show them how soccer’s played.

Now let’s look at some real heroes!
My first kudos go to Owen Hargreaves. He was constantly on the run, and he’s earned my greatest respect as a world class soccer player. Owen Hargreaves was outstanding! In my opinion, he was the best player on the pitch.

Aaron Lennon was fantastic as well. You could see his heart and soul were in the game!

John Terry did a fantastic job playing for England too. Terry, Lampard, Cole,Carragher and Gerrard showed us their hearts were definitely in the game. I applaud their playing styles and their excellent team efforts on a 10 man team.

These team players all set wonderful examples of good sportsmanship and really stuck it out through and through, to the final count down.

Thank you to the real team players for their heartened efforts to try and bring the World Cup trophy home to England!

You showed us what REAL sportsmanship is!

Reading is a nice pastime.

But lately there never seems to be enough time to sit and have a good read. Oh I think to myself, “I’ll go to bed a bit early and get comfy with a good book.” But time has a funny way of slipping past and before I know it, it’s time to go to sleep.

I have quite a collection of books ranging from steamy romance to spine tingling blood and guts horror. In between there’s some pyschology, sci-fi, myth and magyk, true crime, mystery and modern day fiction.

Who, you might wonder is my favorite author?

I’d have to say I have a favorite author in each category.

Romance – Tied – Kathleen Woodiwiss and Bertrice Small

Horror – Tied – Dean Koontz and Sean Hutson

True Crime -Anne Rule

Myth and Magyk – Marion Zimmerman

Modern Day – Fiction -John Grisham

Sci-fi – Robin Cook

In between reading my favorite author’s works I do read Michael Crichton, Danielle Steele, Rosemary Rogers, Johanna Lindsey, and Graham Masterton.

I used to read a book every 2 days back in the days before I discovered the Internet. Used to love tucking my legs up on the chair, have a nice cuppa and a few chocolate chip cookies and get lost in some other place the author’s took me to.

Now life is rushed, setting up listings for ebay, doing chores, running to the post office, cooking and doing even more chores and being available for people with questions from ebay, taking time out to catch Deal or no Deal, and so on and so forth.

I’ve always loved reading. As a young girl I owned every single Nancy Drew book there was, and was caught up in Jane McIlvaine McClary’s novels about a girl named Cammie who loved horses. I must have read The Wizard of Oz a gazillion times.

My Grandmother who had a B.A. in literature was responsible for my love of reading. I think she’d turn in her grave to see a few of the books I do read these days though. Never the less, Grandmother taught me appreciate books, to learn from them all that I could and she encouraged me to learn about the different places I’d read about. Learning about other cities, and countries fed my wanderlust and I have been lucky enough to visit most places I’ve read about and wanted to see.

Never been to Oz yet though!

I passed my love for reading books to my children. I started them with books like Goodnight Moon and good old Dr. Seuss and as they grew up, gave them the world of Judy Blume and Super Fudge etal.

I think that the early stages of book reading helped my kids in their early school years and kept them interested in learning about what’s in their world beyond their neighborhood.

So..go grab a good book and use your imagination to picture the people you’re reading about, to smell the scents of their surroundings, to feel what you’re reading. IMAGINE yourself as a bystander watching the book’s activities going on around you. Feed your brain! Feed your kids brains! Books can be and are FUNdamental!
