Phishing and Scams... how to protect yourself from the crooks.

There are a lot of crooks out there. The purpose of this blog is to hopefully enlighten anyone who isn’t aware of the dangers of scam artists who will try ANYTHING to take your money from you.

Let’s begin with the ebay/paypal phishing email..

You open your email, and there’s a letter there telling you your account is being suspended.. “OMG! Why!!” You think. You proceed to read on and the letter informs you you have breached ebay policy, or that someone has tried to access your account, or that a buyer has made a complaint about you etc..Or the letter may state it’s from paypal and they had a software problem resulting in the loss of your information..credit card details, address etc..

You worry that you may have done something and proceed to click the link you’re directed to in the threatening/worrying email.

All of the icons are ebay/paypal icons, wording looks like ebay’s/paypal’s wording, it all looks so real so you continue on and follow directions to fill in your personal details. The email even suggests that ebay/paypal WILL ask for your credit card number/details in this letter..

STOP!!

You DON’T EVER do anything like that!

But what you can do is run your mouse under the links. You will see rbay.com or ebay.something but you will also see ebay.ru or ebay.someweirdname along with the rest of the PHONY ebay link..

Never ever click any links to these emails.

IF the email is official, it will be addressed to you personally by name AND the official sender will NEVER ask for your personal details.

One way to avoid being caught in any ebay phishing email is to check in MY MESSAGES in ebay. If the message is in there you know it’s really from ebay.

Another phishing scam is that you recieve an email..question from ebay member,,It too looks like an official message, the colors, the icons etc LOOK like ebays..To be on the SAFE side always check MY MESSAGES in MY EBAY. all members messages will be there. Respond through ebay.

When you do get a phishing email..FORWARD it to

spoof@ebay.co.uk

spoof@ebay.com

spoof@paypal.co.uk

spoof@paypal.com

Same rule applies when you are contacted by an ebay member via email and they state they are waiting for payment and if you don’t pay they will sue for fraud and contact the local police etc.

Always check the members name/number in ebay under the find members links. You’ll see no such member exists. And again, if it isn’t in MY MESSAGES it’s a scam. Send the email to spoof@ebay.

Beating these jerks who want to rip you off is not hard to do if you use common sense, and take the time to read the pages provided by ebay and paypal on how to avoid fraud..
